COSMETIC PLASTIC SURGERY
Cosmetic surgery may be an option for many patients. Surgery can enhance your appearance by improving the aesthetic appeal, symmetry, and proportion of your face or body that you may not be able to be achieved through non-surgical procedures. The surgeons of The Aesthetic Center by Kaiser Permanente offer cosmetic surgery for the face, neck, and other parts of the body.
Although your face and other parts of your body may function properly, there may be some areas you would like to aesthetically improve. These procedures are considered elective and are not covered by your health plan.
The following is a list of procedures that we offer. Click on the procedure for more details, including steps necessary to prepare for the surgery and what to expect in the recovery phase.
COSMETIC DERMATOLOGY
We offer you a full spectrum of non-surgical, medically sound treatments that can dramatically and safely enhance your appearance. We have an experienced team of healthcare professionals who have mastered the art of bringing out the true beauty in every patient. Our team includes a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist, a board-certified physician assistant, licensed aestheticians with tattoo artist licenses, and a licensed cosmetologist who all have one goal in mind: to make you look and feel your best!
Non-surgical Treatments
We give you options with non-surgical treatments to enhance your appearance. All of these treatments are clinically proven and FDA approved to restore your youthful appearance. Some may also be used to maintain your beauty following surgical procedures. Our expert consultations are provided by a Cosmetic Dermatologist or Physician Assistant who specializes in transformations, and the $54 consultation fee can be conveniently applied to your treatment.
Collagen Replacer
Aging, exposure to sun, disease, injury, heredity, and your lifestyle can make skin less resilient. Collagen replacers help to restore the youthfulness to your skin’s texture and elasticity.
Collagen is the most abundant protein found in humans and animals, and provides support to skin, muscle, tendons, and bones. Collagen replacement therapy is a safe, non-surgical procedure that replenishes depleted collagen. There is virtually no downtime for recovery after the procedure. We use Sculptra® Aesthetic, which has earned the nickname of “liquid facelift” because of its effectiveness in creating a fuller, more youthful appearance, which can last for up to two years.
The collagen used for the injections are similar to human collagen in our bodies and is ideal for those who want to refresh their appearance. Sculptra® Aesthetic addresses the beginning signs of aging by filling out wrinkles and scars, smooth crow’s feet, frown lines and smile lines, change the border and fullness of lips, and plump up areas of the face.
Double Chin Reducer
Many have a “double chin” and may feel self-conscious about this. It may not be because you are overweight and need to lose weight. Even if you have tried dieting and exercise and are successful in bringing your weight down, you may still have a double chin. We use KYBELLA®, a synthetic acid to get rid of fat below your chin. This same acid occurs naturally in our bodies to help break down and absorb the fat that we eat. KYBELLA® is injected into the fat beneath the chin to destroy fat cells to reduce fullness under the chin.
An injection typically takes between 15 to 20 minutes. The number of monthly injections will depend upon an individual. The good news is that one series of treatment is all you may need because once these fat cells are destroyed, they no longer can store or accumulate fat.
Facial Derma Fillers
Facial lines and wrinkles can become more pronounced as we age because there is less fat beneath the outer layer of our skin. As we get older, our facial muscles are closer to the skin’s surface and are facial skin stretches more, making lines even more apparent. Other factors that affect our skin are exposure to the sun, hereditary, and our lifestyle.
Derma fillers such as Juvéderm® and Restylane® help to diminish facial lines and restore volume and fullness in the face and address early signs of aging. These derma fillers are made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance in our bodies, which can bring dramatic, immediate improvements to your appearance. Hyaluronic acid is found in high concentrations in soft connective tissues such as cartilage and joint fluids. It is also injected into aching joins to relieve arthritis pain.
These derma fillers are effective in filling in acne scars, crow’s feet at the corner of our eyes, deep smile lines, frown lines between the eyebrows, worry lines across the forehead, and scars from burns, acne or wounds. Derma fillers also can make cheeks and lips appear fuller. The results can last from several months to several years depending on the filler used and the individual patient.
Recovery time varies for each patient and depend upon the type of filler injected. You can resume most activities immediately, but you should avoid intense physical activity for up to two days to minimize swelling and bruising.
Facial Peels
Facial peels help to improve the skin’s appearance on your face. A chemical solution strips away the outer layer of the skin to reveal new, smoother skin that is less wrinkled. The process helps reduce fine lines around the eyes and mouth, wrinkles from sun damage or aging, mild scars, certain types of acne, and age spots, freckles or dark patches.
During this outpatient procedure, many experience a burning or stinging sensation that can last for up to about 10 minutes. It may feel like a sunburn after the procedure, and your skin will become more sensitive to the sun, so you should use sunscreen to protect your skin. Deeper peels may require pain medication and bandages to protect your skin. We can help you determine follow-up procedures, including scheduling additional peels at certain intervals, depending upon the depth of the peel.

Laser Treatments
Laser treatments are ideal for those who want an effective way to remove or improve the appearance of facial wrinkles, scars from acne or surgeries, pigment changes in the skin or other skin irregularities. Our state-of-art laser is located at Mapunapuna Medical Office on an outpatient basis.
Using short, concentrated pulsating beams of light directed at the skin’s surface, laser treatments remove skin layers through a procedure known as lasabrasion, laser peel or laser vaporization. This uses lasers to peel away the skin’s surface. Some laser treatments affect only the deeper layers of the skin to tighten and smooth the skin’s surface.
These pulses may sting and feel like burning. When treatment is completed, your face is dressed or ointment is applied to reduce redness or swelling.
The time to recover from laser treatment will vary, depending upon the size and depth of the area that has been treated. Follow-up doctor visits will be important to ensure the healing process is proceeding well.
Leg Vein Treatment
Veins in your legs can be unsightly and can affect anyone at any age. In the past, covering them with pants or stockings, or enduring painful injections or invasive surgery were the only options. Laser light makes veins less visible without harming the surrounding areas of your legs. We do leg vein removal procedures quickly, easily, and with minimal discomfort to you. Since it involves no incisions and no downtime, you can be get back on your feet and back to your youthful appearance in no time!
Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical, non-invasive procedure that uses microcrystals to exfoliate your skin’s surface to reveal fresh, healthier-looking skin. The procedure, which lasts about a half-hour, involves gently sanding your skin with a minimally abrasive instrument. A vacuum typically pulls the crystals and removes the outermost layer of dead skin as the sanding process is underway.
Microdermabrasion also helps to thicken your collagen, which results in a younger looking complexion. Collagen is a protein in your skin that’s abundant when you’re a child and makes skin appear taut and smooth. Collagen production declines as we age, resulting in looser, uneven skin tones. The procedure also stimulates the production of a new, underlying layer of skin cells with higher levels of collagen and elastin, for a younger-looking complexion.
Consultations on microdermabrasion are complimentary, so be sure to make an appointment to allow our healthcare professionals to answer your questions. Ideal candidates for microdermabrasion are those with fine facial lines or wrinkles, age spots, sun damage, uneven pigmentation, clogged pores, skin texture problems, or minor scars. Patients with rosacea or acne may also benefit from microdermabrasion treatments. Deeper facial wrinkles and other conditions may require other types of procedures such as dermabrasion, laser skin tightening, or face lifts.
There is usually a series of microdermabrasion treatments. There is no down time or recovery period following microdermabrasion. Any discomfort experienced following a microdermabrasion procedure is usually temporary. Any redness and swelling should last for only a few hours. The exfoliating process may continue for several days following the procedure. After your treatment, your healthcare provider may recommend a special moisturizer or facial product to enhance the results.
Permanent Hair Reduction
To eliminate the hassle of shaving, tweezing, or waxing, permanent hair removal may be an option. Lasers are targeted a hair follicles to remove unwanted hair permanently, while protecting the surrounding skin. It is ideal for removing unwanted hair from the face, leg, arm, underarm, bikini line, and other areas.
Photo Rejuvenation
Photo rejuvenation is a skin treatment that uses lasers to address uneven skin pigmentation from sun damage, brown spots, and freckles, and minimizes pore size and fine lines. It is also ideal for those with vascular abnormalities such as redness, broken capillaries, spider veins, and rosacea.
The process reverses the effects associated with aging such as wrinkles, spots, and uneven textures by inducing “wounds” on the skin while also encouraging new skin cells. Photo rejuvenation stimulates dormant skin cells, and promotes new collagen growth.
Prescription Treatment – Eyelash Enhancer: Latisse®
Longer eyelashes can dramatically change the appearance of your eyes. Eyelash enhancers can help you grow longer lashes. Safety should be your foremost concern when selecting eyelash enhancer because they may contain chemicals that can cause serious side effects to your eyes.
We offer our patients Latisse®, a product of Allergen, the only prescription eyelash growth serum clinically proven to lengthen eyelashes. Be sure to make an appointment with our healthcare professional to fully understand how the product can work for you. Your consultation is $54, and required before a prescription can be provided to a patient. This provides a measure of safety and ensures you know how to use the product properly for the best results. Wrinkle Reducers
